In 2015, I worked with the Yellow Pages as a freelance writer for their Neighbourhood Business Stories program. The initiative was designed to facilitate local merchant discovery by writing entertaining and informative stories of local businesses for readers to access through YP.ca. The program was designed to create subjective and editorial content (not to be confused with advertorial-style content). Merchants did not pay to receive a neighbourhood business story, though they were permitted to review their stories before publication.
The business owners I interviewed were selected by me, followed by my editors approval and merchant consent. I interviewed all business owners in person and took my own pictures. Based on my interest and experience in fashion, I mainly selected local fashion retailers to interview.
