You know that term "it hurts to be beautiful?” And the painful dilemma that we always go through on a Friday morning; fashionable VS comfortable? Well, CEO and designer, Melody Minagar, has the solution for us with her line; Proverbial Couture.
The 22 year old designer launched her first collection in 2012, for men and women ages 20 to 35. The inspiration behind it is simple; casual sex appeal. "I wanted clothing that made women feel sexy, effortlessly and comfortably. Functional clothing that can take you from Pilates to party," Minagar says.
This first collection consists of PVB basics. The items are all about being versatile and comfortable, so forget spending a fortune on an item that you will only wear once. This collection consists of timeless, go-to items that you will reach for again and again. “I wanted Proverbial to have lasting style rather than caving in to a 60 second fad. In five years, this line will still look current,” Minagar says.
Some of the pieces include tanks, leggings and hoodies that you might consider wearing to your next gym session, but you will also want to pull out of your closet to complete an evening attire. Pair a graphic tee with a black blazer, or the "butterfly top" with jeans, and a pair of heels, and you’re ready to go. The pieces in this collection are all about light materials that create an easy, effortless look that is still fashionable.
In her latest collection, the only colors that are offered are black and white. Minagar describes it as, "basic yet bold." But you can expect some color and more designs in her next collection.
All of her clothes are also proudly made straight out of Los Angeles, California. “I'm building an empire, an empire with values, that will create jobs and keep work in the USA,” she says.
Minagar says she began sketching and designing as a kid and the passion grew up with her. "I worked on improving my skills everyday and it didn't come easy for me. I am only as good as my last collection.” Despite the fact that she has been working hard on her designs and building her empire, she reminds herself "not to take life so seriously."
Besides the effortlessly chic designs that Minagar creates, items in this collection with graphic prints are also all of her own artwork.
Through all of her hard work, Minagar still has the time to think about others and will soon be announcing a charity that she will dedicate five percent of all of Proverbial Couture sales to.
